Heralders of the Gospel (Part 4) 2

Timothy 1 Our conscience - accuser, comforter. We need to learn to live a victorious life. One with a weak conscience takes short cuts; its not ok to do whatever you think. Are we weak or victorious? A good conscience is not double -minded, or weak. We need to guard our conscience from sin. We need to guard our heart for this is where the real issues of life come out for us. We need to listen and take action - pray for someone, help someone. We are good enough because God says we're good enough. Not because of what we think. Paul never ceases praying for Timothy. Timothy was young. It's not about you but the equipping of God in your life. God created in Timothy such a constant, respectful, responsible equipping in character. Paul would love to come and see Timothy. It's encouraging to be with fellow believers and be encouraged and encourage. A faithful man puts nothing above the Lord. He wants to see God be given glory in everything. God equips people (even the young) to

Heralders of the Gospel (Part 2)

2 Timothy 1 Those who are instructed in the church are more able/willing to help others be instructed so they know Jesus. Being instructed should be most important in our life. Eg we will water the plant, the one with the most promise. If you use what God entrusts to you, you will receive more. The world teaches us we are owed. This causes us to miss out with God. God puts you in church to learn from each other about God. We need to have knowledge of God; not information. Information is just information unless we have knowledge of God in our lives. Paul - understands the deeper mercy of God in our lives. If our striving is on ourselves we burn out. Then we fall away because of trying in our own strength. Put on God's grace towards others. Don't be looking for others to extend grace to you. God has extended grace. God wants you to be a vessel to extend grace to others. Be like Jesus and let the grace of God flow through you. Paul is instructing Timothy to be tha

Heralder of the Gospel (Part 1 )

2 Timothy 1 The standing or dignity or good name of Preacher is extremely important. We pick this up from God's Word. We all have the opportunity to be heralders of the Word. Two things you can do on earth: 1. sin and 2. tell others about Jesus. Seek the glory of God in everything you do. Jesus took back the glory lost by Adam in the Garden of Eden when he went to the cross, died and rose again. In nature the head is protected (eg by the hand). So too we in Church we should protect the leadership of the church. Psalm 105:15 In 1798 a child was born. At school he showed potential and his father, a mechanic, consented to his education. God used him greatly. His name: Albert Barnes. If we try to live our life outside of God's plan we will never truly achieve. We need to tell people about God's plan for their life. Paul, a Pharisee of pharisees. He went from being a murderer to a preacher. Function of gospel is to be preached to the world. We have a life to live by God&

What's In A Name?

Names are associated with important events in our lives. Either positive or negative. Paul Bible reference Colossians chapter 4. People had come into the church and tried to deceive people with rules that were not of Christ. What does Christ think of you? That's why names are important. Paul - the value of Christian friendship; love God and others. God is our friend. True friendship shows care about their welfare. Paul cared about the Colossians and they cared about Paul. Mutal interest will lead to relationship of mutal dependence of caring and dependence. God wants to see you depend on Him and he is interested in you. - Paul wanted to go to the very heart of Christ's teachings. - Love our brothers and sisters in the Lord - Unity and oneness; not uniformity. - What God cleanses; is clean. - In Christ Jesus you are no longer a sinner but washed in the blood. - In Christ there are no steps up a ladder - No one is higher or greater than the other - We are all equal in
