Passon on the Banner of Witnessing in our Nation

As our Pastor was away Ps Phyllis shared with us on Passing on the Banner of Witnessing in our Nation on Sunday.  The question posed to us was "How do I become a better witness for Christ Jesus?"

Bible Readings:
  • Hebrews 12:1-2
  • Psalm 116
  • Deut 6:6-7
  • Romans 8:38
  • Acts 20:24
  • Matthew 25:21
We live in a nation that has it's heritage founded on the ways of Almigthy God.  This land is rich in Christian witness with men and women living Christ like lives in very difficult surroundings. Some to mention:  Rev Richard Johnson, Ludwig Liechart, Charles Sturt, Edward Eyre, Caroline Chisolm, Mary McKinnon, Rev John Flynn, Fred McKay and the list goes on.

Reference to Australia's Christian Heritage (by Col Stinger).  Suggested reading.

When we are involved in witnessing for Christ we all have an enemy who's only desire is to cause disunity amongst God's people and we need to guard against this.  Phyllis then shared three ways that TCC members are involved in their Church and passing on the banner of witnessing.

Three ways that members of Tolga Community Church are involved in passing on the banner of witnessing:
  • The involvement of the young people, even the youngest that attend TCC
  • Wildlife - one of our members is a local wildlife carer and we often have "little visitors" attend with her.  This provides opportunities for people to feel welcomed and begin conversations.  The children also enjoy seeing which new "visitor" will come on a Sunday
  • The presence of the Holy Spirit (this is frequently commented on by visitors to TCC)
The men and women who came to Australia handed down to us a Christian Heritage and witness.  We want to see every person who comes to TCC to be encouraged to become one of the great cloud of witnesses in this nation ( and even further afield) for now and all future generations.

Where do we find Encouragement and Strength in our lives?

This week Ps Phyllis shared with us on "Where do we find Encouragement and Strength in our lives?" Ps Phyllis shared with us some of the story of Captain Charles Sturt who discovered the Murray River (ref:page 51 Australia's Christian Heritage) Winston Churchill said: "Never, never, never, never give up." The Voice of Experience

Bible readings from Sunday 16th January Message: Acts 17:26-27 Galations 6:7 Genesis Chapter 1:1 Eccelesiates Chapter 3 Romans 2:14-15 Ecclesiates 2:18 1 Corinthians chapter 13 Matthew 5:1-12 10 Commandments - Exodus chapter 20:1-17 We want the world to be fair, but it isn't.  Our view of what is fair may be different from another's view of what is fair.  People deny the existence of God, but that does not mean God does not exist.  Walk through Israel and surrounding areas to see historical evidence.  Look at creation.  Genesis chapter one verse 1 says "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." We don't know from one day to the next what will happen but God is our constant.  We are not here to build "castles" but to proclaim the Message and when we're done we take the Father's hand and go home. The following story shows us the voice of experience - we can learn a lot from a child's perspective... Sandcastles by
