2 Timothy 4:1-8
John F Kennedy said "think not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country".
Or "think not what your church can do for you but what you can do for your church".
Reputation, whether we like it or not, matters. If people don't see the value of a person; they won't see the value in a person.
Abraham - Genesis 12
God gives us His Word and causes us to preach His Word. You don't have to strive to be a good person; you have to trust God.
Satan promises good but pays evil; promise pleasure but pays with pain; promises life but pays with death.
What God promises you will have. Life, heaven, truth.
Holy Spirit works on our conscience. Our conscience is our advisor and our accuser. Your conscience will judge you - right or wrong.
People who don't do anything with their conscience can't be trusted and will lead you astray.
Friendship is important. True friends help you and walk with you through good and bad times. A mate who is not honest with you is not a real friend. We need to be honest, true.
Paul tells Timothy not to preach stuff that tickles ears. Preach truth. God takes penalty of sin away so we sin less; not more!
Faith shows how fair dinkum we are. Faith is not just about trusting God to do His part. We also have our part to play in our faith. Faith is about us being faithful to God. Living out what we believe in God.
We think it's about the power God puts in us. Its about God displaying His power. Not about us; about what God is doing in your life.
Romans 8 - share in the suffering of Christ. Do we see people as Christ does. What would you take as the greatest proof of friendship a man can give? Even when the time comes when people won't acknowledge true doctrine; preach the Message, be insistent on it.
We always think God's our friend; but are we a friend of God? Do we feel that same burden that God feels about people?
Run the race; keep the faith. Don't look for instant fixes; self gratification; worldly things.
