Heralders of the Gospel ( Part 8)

•  Salvation
•  Serve Jesus

Paul is writing to Timothy and instructing him to serve Christ.

Jesus came to testify about God the Father.  We are called to love and serve God.  We are about serving God.  This is our first duty.  Helping others comes from serving God.  Jesus wasn't just another person in the street.   Jesus came as a rabbi with authority.

Jesus is the Son of God.   He had authority.      Jesus told his disciples to love one another.   This is how to reveal God in our lives.

2 Timothy 2

God's word is not chained.  It is always free to do what God wants. If we are faithless;  he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.

We need to be faithful to our Captain.   To please Christ.   How do you overcome your sin?  Turn to Christ.   We have the choice.   If God did this we wouldn't have the choice.  Yet God gives us the freedom of choice.  That’s how free God allows us.

The prize of the race for an athlete is to finish the race.  A soldier gets involved in the affairs of being a soldier, not in the causes of civilians.

It's so easy to get distracted.   We are to do what our Lord Jesus wants.  We are to do the will of God.   Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith.  Paul is writing to Timothy whilst he was in chains in prison.  A lot of times we don't talk about suffering.   In Australia we don't come under suffering.   But in most of the world the Church is suffering for their faith in God.   Strife destroys the things of God.  Strife destroys your life.

Titus 2:14  Why did God save you ?  To be his own people who are saved from doing wickedness ourselves; eager to do good.   We can only control our own actions. We live in a world of wickedness.   It's our choice to do good or evil.  God gives resources to do good; Satan gives resources to do evil.

What is this 'good'?  The Church is like a house.  Some things have greater value than others.  A car has more value than a comb.  Metal pots are of more value than wood or clay as they hold liquid.

Do you want to be a vessel of little value or of greater value?  It's our choice.  What is our main role in life?  We choose to make ourselves to be a holy vessel set apart to be a clean, holy, separated vessel for God.  If not we are simply a  'do-gooder'.

God wants us to follow him because it's coming out of our heart.   If we live following Christ then others will see and be drawn to God.  We will always have people that need help.

The woman came to Jesus and washed his feet and blessed Jesus.   She gave to him.  Jesus told her to go and sin no more - that was her choice.  She gave up all to follow Christ.  That night that woman 'died' to the world.

Jesus came to testify to the Truth - the Father.  We can't fix this world up.   That’s not our job.  First we make sure we are a holy vessel.   Doing good is having God living in us.  Without repentance there is no salvation.   You can confess but no salvation without repentance.   That means we choose to get sin out of our lives and do good.

Keep ourselves from sinning by making the choice to follow God. Who influences you -who you choose to listen to - either God or Satan.  We overcome sin in Christ Jesus.   We live in a sinful body.  But even though you will make mistakes,  confess,  repent and choose to put Christ in your life.   Two choices - we choose either good or evil, life or death

We don't know from one day to the next what will happen but God is our constant.  We are not here to build "castles" but to proclaim the Message and when we're done we take the Father's hand and go home. The following story shows us the voice of experience - we can learn a lot from a child's perspective... Sandcastles by
