1 Thessalonians 2:7-9
We need to be involved in the life of the town. Paul and his companions put their heart and life into serving the people.
Sometimes Christian workers treat the Gospel as a commodity. But it's not. That's not how Paul and his companions presented the Gospel.
V7 nursing mother - a slave often was given the task to fully give herself to the well being of the child.
Paul likewise presents this as how they served.
Then they served like a father.
A Pastor is an overseer with the gift of teaching. (Ephesians) Most of the time they are overseer/shepherds.
The apostles come into the town and they confront the role of priest. Jesus was a Rabbi - teacher.
A father - as we look to learn spiritual lessons - love and commitment.
They dealt with new believers as a father with children. Encouragement and love and provide guidance. Exhort (build up a person), teach and help children to accept their responsibilities so they get through life.
Children respond well to encouragement. They want to please their parents.
Exhortation and discipline - then believers will mature and grow up.
Barnabas = son of encouragement.
He demonstrated this character. He reached out to Paul.
