Justification and Santification
Romans 3:12
"Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him." Philippians 2:12-13
3 kinds of love:
Romantic love- attachment
Responding love - thankful and responding
Agape love - your salvation; God saus, "I will pay the price for"
We not talking about earning our salvation through efforts. This is a wordly thinking. God is not in the business of insurance but assurance.
Sin is sin; no matter how big or small. You need to reconnect with God. The wonderful news is when you are a Christian; because you have God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit in your life, you can do good works.
Ephesians 2:8-10: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
God has a plan for you. We live in a world corrupted by sin; He takes careof our spirit. We as God's people are declared fit for heaven; but we know we are still a work in progress.
Holy saints; but we are not always holy.
God is calling us to live like holy saints now.
Philippians 1:6: "For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus."
Once a person is forgiven of our sins, God begins a change in us. Progressive sanctification- gradually God is making us fit to livein heaven. When we are saved? God makes our spirit right. Then He works on the rest of our body, etc.
"For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing;" 2 Corinthians 2:15 NASB
We are to be different that people would see the love of God in us.
Greek word for being saved means we are in a process. God calls us to work out our salvation in fear and trembling. The journey is the greatest part of our life with God.
Without God we cannot grow, particularly spiritually. Someday we will reach heaven and be perfectly holy.
In order to live the Christian life we must want to change. Example: Abraham.
When we get things wrong go to God and talk it out. Restore with God. The most important thing in our life is our relationship with God. We need God to change us. If you try to change yourself it won't work. We must depend in God to change us. We must want ro change and grow.
God has given us the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit works in our life; we will change.
