1 John 1:1-10
Choices in life is very important. The choices you make matter.
There were two men who died in the past year. Both died in their 90's. Both grew up in Christian homes. One chose to fulfil their ministry in God and one chose to fulfil their lusts in this physical life.
We must realise who God is. Acceptance of who God is. God has ways to help us deal with our sin. He does not want us to 'flog' ourselves.
The Old Testament sacrifices covered sin; the New Testament tells us our sin is washed clean.
If we're going to have fellowship with God, this issue of sin has to be dealt with.
1 John 4
Fellowship begins:
Faith in our Lord Jesus Christ- our trust in God. Nothing we do. 1 John 4:4; 1 John 4:9.
We love because He first loved us.
1 John 4:19
There are times when we question if we are saved. If we want to have fellowship with God we trust Him. Sometimes we do fall and fail. It's not about whether we fall or fail; it's what you do with it.
People have emotions. Emotions are part of us. We can build a connection-a starting point to turning back to God. Salvation totally depends on God. You cannot be an island. We're all equal in our dependence on God.
We also have a will. You have to want to follow Jesus. You want to get saved? Trust God. We are to submit to the authority of God. God's laws and rules show us our need of Him.
1 John 1:5 - there is no darkness in God.
Isaiah 6:1-6
1 John 1:9- 1 John 2:2
Where is Jesus right now? Pleading our case before the Father. Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit to comfort us.
1 Peter 1
God provides redemption from the slavery of sin.
Be a stranger in this world.
God provides a way of reconciliation for you.
God is so faithful and forgive you; He will make you clean; whiter than snow.
God wants you to walk in the light. God wants us in the light so that your sin is exposed and dealt with. Ephesians 4 - long list of sins and bad behaviour. We cannot have fellowship with God if we deceive ourselves that we don't sin.
1 John 1:10
One of the big things that causes our fellowship with God to fail; is if we claim we have not sinned.
It's not about whether we fall or fail; it's about walking in the light. It's about our fellowship with God. God credited Abraham as righteous because He trusted God. Fellowship is broken when we believe we don't sin.
God will always do the right thing by you. He is righteous.
